Make The Most Of Your Baby Moon With These 5 Tips

Pregnancy sure is an exciting time, but it is important to also factor in “me” and “us” time before your bundle of joy arrives. And, without a doubt, a babymoon is an excellent way to celebrate a new chapter that is about to begin in your life. Why? Well, they are relaxing, romantic and a great way to build memories before sleepless nights of diaper changing kick-in. Before you start booking tickets, though, keep these five tips in mind to plan a smooth, problem-free babymoon experience you can look back at with a smile later on! –

1. Timing Is Key

The timing of your babymoon and the destination you lock-in will likely make or break your babymoon. Arrange to take a babymoon during your first trimester and you risk the chance of it being ruined by excessive tiredness and morning sickness. Book an international destination for a babymoon in your third trimester and you risk not being able to travel at all, or a complication taking place far away from home. Hence, the second trimester your best bet for further destinations.

2. Look Into Distance

When you’re undergoing mood swings, the last thing you want is to arrive groggy, jet-lagged and cranky. That’s why short haul city breaks are a smart choice, with flights of 3-hours or less. Destinations that fall within this ballpark travel time also reduces the chance of Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) during your flight, which pregnant women are more susceptible to developing.

3. Consider Your Hobbies

Take time out to think about what you really want to do on your babymoon. If you hate walking, especially when you’re feeling more tired than usual, then a beach holiday might be a good idea. However, if you feel bored at the beach, a quick trip to the mountains might do the trick, especially if you book a room with a lovely view.

Rookie Tip – If you’re struggling to come up with ideas, consider booking your babymoon with a babymoon specialist.

4. Be Cautious

Needless to say, you have to be careful of what you’re eating during your pregnancy, and that also holds true while babymooning. Have a word with your doctor about advice surrounding what to eat while travelling and any immunizations you might need to get taken care of for safety. Whilst Zika doesn’t seem to be making the news anymore, this doesn’t mean you shouldn’t check the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention before you book your holiday, which will give you up to date advice for the destinations you are considering.

Rookie Tip – Keep your medical records with you and a list of nearby hospitals in case of any emergencies. Avoid leaving home without travel insurance, and definitely check the fine print as some insurance companies exclude IVF, twin and triplet pregnancies!

5. Indulge Like There’s No Tomorrow

Although there is nothing quite like seeing your child’s face for the first time, the other side of the coin is your babymoon might be the last time you and your partnered will be able to indulge in guilt-free pampering and alone-time for a while. So, definitely relish these special moments with relaxing spas, romantic meals and meaningful conversations before your world is filled with the sound of crying, dirty nappies and bibs!
